The story behind Birdie Cakes

The story behind Birdie Cakes

The meeting

The story of Birdie Cakes began on a beautiful summer day in 2023, on a basketball court. Two players were paired up for a pickup game: the first, Jim, an American consultant for a major company, and the second, Andreas, a French pastry chef

The Obsession

Jim, ever enthusiastic, introduced Andreas to golf by taking him to a driving range for the first time. One good swing was all it took for Andreas to become hooked. From that moment, he developed a real obsession for the sport, training daily, studying the game, and making golf the center of his life.

The idea

Jim, always believing in Andreas’ talent, began planting ideas about combining Andreas’ two passions: pastry and golf. Later that summer, at a food festival at their local club, Andreas had his first birdie. Jim seized the moment and suggested, “You should create a golf ball pastry and call it Birdie Cakes.” Andreas, the perfectionist French chef, dismissed the idea with a strong No.” To him, it wasn’t “fancy” enough, and he couldn’t imagine creating something so basic.

The revelation

But the idea lingered in Andreas’ mind. A few months later, inspiration struck. Using a Pro V1 golf ball he had kept (one he hadn’t lost while playing), he decided to create a mold. With a silicone mix purchased on Amazon, he crafted a mold, filled it with chocolate, and paired it with a chocolate mousse. After one night in the freezer, the result was clear: Jim’s vision had come to life a perfect golf ball pastry, elevated by Andreas’ 15 years of expertise as a French chef.

The achievement

When Andreas presented his creation to Jim, they both realized they had something truly unique. Determined to take things further, Andreas worked with Pavoni, one of the best mold manufacturers, to create a custom mold. They enlisted one of Andreas’ best friends to design the golf ball sleeve and gift box and found a manufacturer to bring the packaging to life.

And just like that, Birdie Cakes was born. The rest is history.
